Breath of Clouds (2026)

“Breath of Clouds” is a multi-panel photographic tableau designed specifically for the lobby of the Adams Neuroscience Center of Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT. The artwork draws upon the interrelationship between respiration, regeneration and inspiration. Links between respiration, the nervous system and cognition are fundamental to health and the brain/body connection at the heart of the interdisciplinary field of neuroscience.

As I drift in my kayak, photographing in tidal estuaries of Long Island Sound, I watch clouds above me disappearing and reappearing in ever-changing shapes on the surface of the water below me. Clouds appear to breathe, inhaling and exhaling currents of air as I do, too, paddling below. I feel a sense of wholeness as the worlds within and outside of my body mirror one another. Everything is in motion, alive and exchanging the same air.

Each 4-ft. x 6-ft. panel is printed as a dye-sublimated archival photograph on aluminum.
