Flourishing I-VI, 2020
These 6 photographic panels, Flourishing I-VI are part of a larger series entitled “Stirring the Waters” in which I photographed a 1 mile stretch of a river in my kayak – brushing, stroking and swirling the surface of the water with my paddle. These fluid gestures were spontaneous drawings I made on the water and captured with my camera. My intention was to visualize a reciprocal exchange between currents in me and the moving water – to make visible ways in which humans are both shaped by, and shaping, nature. This sequence depicts aspects of this choreography and dance with nature… being touched by, and responding to, the aliveness that ebbs and flows between us.
